Carlisle

The Cumbria county town and a city that is historic is Carlisle (locally /ˈkɑːrlaɪl/ Scottish Gaelic: Cathair Luail: from Cumbric: Caer Luel or /kɑːrˈlaɪl/). It is also the Carlisle City district's centre that is administrative in North West England, historically in Cumberland. Seven companies used Carlisle Citadel railway station at one time.

It lasted until 1971, as the Control Board of Carlisle and the State Management Scheme of Carlisle & District subsequently. The only city in Cumbria is Carlisle. The Moorville, Lowry Hill, and Kingstown suburbs, part of the Kingmoor parish formerly, are in the north of Carlisle.

Exists but only includes a small part of Carlisle's urban area, Whiteclosegate, is the parish of Stanwix Rural. Harraby a former village once part of St Cuthbert Without and the largest suburb of Carlisle is between Upperby and Botcherby. A principal station on the West Coast Main Line is Carlisle railway station.

Has four Carlisle campuses, on Brampton Road, Fusehill Street, Newcastle Street, and Paternoster Row is the University of Cumbria. Dated the Roman timber fort constructed at the present location of Carlisle Castle to the ad 73's winter, protecting a location that is strategic overlooking the Eden and Caldew rivers confluence, is the 1970s excavations along Annetwell Street that were undertaken.

Founded as an Augustinian priory was Carlisle Cathedral. Relocated were the fire service, police, and as far as Morecambe, Carlisle United F.C..

Within the city of Carlisle, the secondary schools are: Richard Rose Morton Academy, Richard Rose Central Academy, Trinity School, (Roman Catholic Private School) Austin Friars St Monicas, Catholic School of Newman. Represented in English football by Carlisle United, currently in the fourth tier of English football after being relegated from the Football League One, is Carlisle.
